Proud Home Owners..Ummm??

Sticking to the Plan

Don and I now are the proud owners of this 1800's  "Fixer-Upper.  May I say Reality has sunk in...A Lot!!

This is me:  OMG!!! What the hell have be bought?
Don:  Honey you knew the plan.
Me:  Ah, yes but, why did we by such a huge house with a million projects.

When I think about everything Don and I want to change about our new home all at once, I get scared, and wonder if we will be able to complete renovating every part of this very large house...
I get quickly overwhelmed.  I'm sure this happens with many people while doing their own DIY home projects.

I'm sure like many of you out there in DIY land, you make plans about what you would like to see changed in your home, or house that may be purchased.  That's what we did on our walk through and the 50+ viewings of "the house we might buy" on Zillow, or Trulia.com. Here's our 4 season plan.

Summer 2017
                     Front of House Makeover

  1. Replace the 4 tiny windows in the (west facing) front of the house with new windows and trim better suited to the style, scale, and look of a New England Cape
  2. Reclaim the overgrown, untended yard and gardens
  3. Replace sad old steps with wide platform and solid steps
  4. Remove vinyl siding and replace with stained cedar shakes, paint the trim, front door and replace rotted planks
Fall/Winter 2017/2018

             Kitchen/Dining Room/Living Room

  1. Raise the Ceilings and expose floor stringers in all 3 rooms
  2. Open up the wall between Kitchen, and Dining Room and make a new hearth and feature wall behind wood stove
  3. Replace kitchen cabinets, rearrange appliances, add a kitchen island
  4. Sand and stain wood floors and paint walls
Spring/Summer 2018

                          Southside Makeover

  1. Remove vinyl siding on southeast wall (long side of house) and replace with new stained cedar shakes, paint trim, and replace any rotted boards
  2. Replace 6 windows with larger better suited windows and add new trim
  3. Add a beautiful long farmers porch
  4. Reclaim more land and maybe make a garden
See four easy steps for each season.  We've got this.
