Moving Forward

Having the new spring season upon us it has become clear that we will be combining our efforts on both Phase 2 & 3.  

Meaning our work efforts will be split between 

• Inside renovation of the kitchen, living room, & dining room
• Outside landscaping
• Re-siding the south side
• Building the addition of a farmers porch 

Yes, our plate is full and overflowing, but we are happy here and excited when small projects come together.

Don likes to remind me "Baby, Less than a year and look at all we've done."
He is right I guess, we have changed this place a lot.  (God...I can't believe I admitted that)

Our strategy going forward is to stay focused, complete small projects, and celebrate the small victories.  

Let's look at some of those.

2 newly installed large slider windows in the kitchen with wall covering too.
- Anyone who has worked on a old house knows that with every small project comes a new puzzle of repairs. 

North Wall

Hi Handsome.  
Re-framed out the new window before pulling the old one.  

This window project went in like a charm

We removed the tiny window by the pantry and chose 
plywood for the tile that we'll be applying from counter top to ceiling,
plus a new light installed too

South Wall Project start time 9am 

10am  Oh look...it's that hot man again...He is busy removing 
the old south side picture window.
Oh No...revealed some badly rotted wall boards too

  4:40pm  Oh no...more problems.  
There was an inch gap between the new window frame and the outside walls. 
 Solution: Shim out the new frame so it's level with the rest of the 
outside wall.

7pm  Phew!! All buttoned up 

New walls!!!

Small victories are what keeps us going.  

Wild Vines

Now that April has given us some warmer weather we have been outside every weekend tackling the barrier of grapevines and raspberry bushes.  
Before they become this...

July 2017
We were fighting a losing battle of the grapevines last summer.
We were lucky to just make a path to the back lot.


 

April 2018
Loving the small land reclaims, saving these 2 lilac trees,
and look at all the little flowers

This is not very satisfying work, but we are hoping that we will have some sort of yard at the end of the struggle.  

Now we have 3 huge brush piles to burn up plus pile #3 of Junk found in the yard. #sanford&sonswearenot

Bonfire Soon

We are staying focused and getting it done.    

Soon I'll be posting a kitchen story board about all the design details that our new kitchen will feature. Don just got a coat of mud and tape on the new drywall. A new window has just arrived for the dining room (installing that soon) and I'm working on white washing the many ship-lap boards for the ceiling.
